1. LOOK IN THE MIRROR
Keep a mirror on your desk and take a look at your hair (combed), face (nothing in teeth or nose), clothing (neat) before you turn on that camera and after you eat or drink.
2. PLACE YOUR CAMERA AT EYE LEVEL
People on Zoom may be in cyberspace, but they are also only a few inches away! You don't want to appear as though you are looking down on anyone, and you definitely don't want anyone staring up your nose! Be sure that you are neither too close nor too far away from the screen- 12 to 16 inches usually feels comfortable.
Then, lift your laptop to eye level with a shelf (some computer shelves have added storage), a box or stack of books- fast, free and easy!
3. FIND NATURAL LIGHT
There is a reason that professional photographers spend so much time and money on lighting- it matters. If possible, sit near a window and take advantage of natural light. It's the most flattering- and free! If you must use artificial light, place lamps at 10 and 2 o’clock so that you are surrounded by light. No unflattering spotlights!
4. REDUCE SHINE
Let your sparkling wit- not your skin- shine. A touch of powder on your forehead, nose and chin (T-zone) cuts shine and gives you a nice, natural look.
5. LIGHT UP YOUR FACE
Bring some color and dimension to your face with a bit of blush on the apples of your cheeks.
6. DEFINE YOUR EYES
They say that eyes are the window to the soul- make certain that yours stand out! It is not necessary to wear five eyeshadows and three coats of mascara over eyelash extensions (unless that’s your thing, of course). Simply define your eyes with brown or black eyeliner and lightly fill in your eyebrows, if they are sparse.
7. SHOWCASE & LOVE THOSE LIPS
Nothing feels worse than dry, chapped lips, and they look horrible on camera! Keep your lips looking and feeling smooth, soft, moisturized. Start with a balm or moisturizing primer like Fiction Lip Balm to Calm 100mg CBD
Next, try a defining lip color that will also bring some color and brightness to your face like Fiction Cosmetics Digit and Shangri-La Lip Duos - matte liquid lipsticks and liners that dry to a soft, smooth finish that won’t transfer. They stay fresh and beautiful all day- even under face masks! Your lips will look and feel amazing
You're now ready for that Zoom call.. and the next one.. and the next…
